Convenience store chain 7-Eleven has initiated legal action against Nike, filing a federal lawsuit in Dallas to halt the upcoming release of a new Air Max 95 sneaker. According to a report by Tarek Anthony for the Portland Oregonian, the retailer alleges that the sneaker’s design, which features 7-Eleven’s signature red, orange, and green color scheme, constitutes trademark infringement.
The footwear is scheduled for release on July 11—a date marketed by the chain as “7/11 Day.” In its court filing, 7-Eleven asserts that the use of its proprietary color palette, which the company claims has been in use for over 40 years, creates a significant risk of consumer confusion. The store maintains that the public may incorrectly assume an official partnership or connection between the two brands.
The lawsuit seeks a permanent injunction to prevent Nike from marketing or selling the specific Air Max 95 model. Furthermore, 7-Eleven is requesting that the court order a recall and destruction of existing inventory, as well as the forfeiture of any profits generated from the sales of the disputed footwear. Nike has not yet provided a public statement regarding the litigation.
