The 85th Men’s and 80th Women’s Chess Championships of Armenia concluded at the Tigran Petrosyan Chess House, with Robert Hovhannisyan and Susanna Gaboyan emerging as the champions of 2025.
Men’s Championship
Robert Hovhannisyan delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 6.5 points in nine rounds without a single defeat. This marks his third national championship title, adding to his previous victories. Arthur Davtyan secured second place with 5.5 points, while Sargis Sargsyan took third with the same score but a lower tiebreak performance.
During the championship, Benik Agasaryan and Sargis Sargsyan fulfilled the norms for the title of International Master. This was the third time for Agasaryan and the first for Sargsyan.
The tournament featured several top-class players, including Grandmasters Tigran Harutyunyan, Karen Grigoryan, Mamikon Gharibyan, Hovik Hayrapetyan, Manuel Petrosyan, and Zaven Andriasyan.
Women’s Championship
Susanna Gaboyan clinched her fourth national title with a score of 7 points out of a possible 9, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament. She previously claimed the title in 2015, 617, and 2024.
Anna Khachatryan secured second place with 6.5 points, while Mariam Avetisyan completed the podium with 6 points. Milena Gasparyan and Nvard Hayrapetyan also scored 6 points but ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, based on tiebreak criteria.
Other participants in the women’s tournament included Polina Kobak, Meline Harutyunyan, Suzanna Arakelyan, and Lilia Danielyan.
Thanks to their victories, Robert Hovhannisyan and Susanna Gaboyan have earned the right to represent Armenia in the national chess team.
