Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Armen Mkrtchyan, met with Alexander V. Tigue, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) legal attaché for Armenia and Georgia, representing the U.S. Department of Justice. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Alexander Tigue congratulated Mkrtchyan on assuming his new role and expressed confidence that the strong and productive partnership between Armenia’s MIA, the FBI, and the U.S. Embassy in Armenia would continue to expand successfully.
Deputy Minister Mkrtchyan thanked Tigue for the congratulations and emphasized the U.S. Embassy’s active engagement in the reforms underway within Armenia’s MIA. He also expressed gratitude to the previous legal attaché, Heather Berg, for her significant contribution to fostering cooperation between the Ministry and the FBI.
Highlighting the importance of international collaboration, Mkrtchyan noted the effectiveness of training programs organized by the FBI both in Armenia and the U.S. These programs have enhanced the professional knowledge of officers involved in cyber security and the identification of wanted individuals, as well as improved collaboration on solving various crimes.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister provided an overview of ongoing reforms within the MIA, particularly in the Criminal Police Department. He emphasized the need to deepen cooperation in combating drug trafficking, human trafficking, cybercrime, money laundering, and illegal migration.
