The government has approved a new procedure for providing scholarships to employees of Armenian resident companies for studies at prestigious foreign universities, provided that the employer covers half the costs.
In its session on March 6, the government approved the procedure for granting scholarships to promote studies of employees of Armenian resident commercial organizations in prestigious foreign universities. The scholarship is intended to be provided to citizens of Armenia studying full-time at top-ranked foreign higher education institutions listed within the top 65-75 universities in the academic rankings of http://www.shanghairanking.com for the current year, by educational level, as state financial encouragement to compensate tuition fees.
Scholarships for Study at Top Universities: New Opportunity for Young Professionals
The new initiative by the Armenian government aims to raise the educational level of young professionals and expand their opportunities to study at the world’s best universities. This scholarship program aims to stimulate the professional growth of employees of Armenian resident commercial organizations by providing them with world-class education.
Co-financing Condition: Employer Contribution to Education
One of the main conditions for granting a scholarship is the participation of the employer in financing tuition fees. The student’s current or future employer must be willing to compensate at least 50 percent of the tuition fees. The state scholarship will be provided after the employer’s contribution, up to the remaining tuition fee amount and not more than 10 million AMD per academic year.
Employment Obligations and Responsibility: Three-Year Contract and Penalty Clause
Within the framework of the program, employment obligations are also established. The employer and the student must conclude an agreement that will imply funding for studies and an obligation to take up employment with the employer or continue working for them after graduation. The term of the employment contract must be at least 3 years after the expected graduation date. A mechanism of responsibility is also provided for cases when, after graduation, the scholarship holder does not return to Armenia, drops out of studies, or transfers to another university. In such cases, the employer will be obliged to pay a penalty to the state budget, tripling the total amount of the scholarship provided by the state.
Number of Scholarships and Funding: State Support for Professional Development
The scholarship program will be funded from the state budget. Each year, the government will set the maximum number of state scholarships, taking into account budgetary capabilities. This initiative is a direct investment by the state in education and professional development, aimed at training highly qualified specialists for the economy.
Goal: Qualified Personnel and Economic Development: Expected Program Outcomes
The main goal of this government decision is to ensure the involvement of highly qualified specialists in Armenian organizations. The program is expected to contribute to human capital development, the introduction of innovations, and the improvement of Armenia’s economic competitiveness. Specialists educated at top foreign universities will be able to invest their knowledge and experience in the development of the domestic economy.
