Armenia’s tourism sector recorded 1,926,405 visits during January-October 2024, a 5.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, when 2,045,282 visits were registered. However, compared to pre-pandemic 2019 figures, the sector experienced a 15% growth, underlining a strong rebound and consistent progress. This data was highlighted during the Tourism Committee’s annual summary event attended by Minister of Economy.

In his speech, Minister emphasized the strategic importance of tourism for economic growth, job creation, and attracting investments, as well as for enhancing Armenia’s global positioning. He announced ambitious plans for 2025, including increased budget allocations and the launch of the TRIP program in collaboration with the World Bank, aiming to inject up to $100 million into Armenia’s tourism industry.

Tourism Committee Chairwoman Lusine Gevorgyan shared insights on the sector’s achievements in 2024, including Armenia being recognized as a top destination by Lonely Planet for 2025 and Wanderlust Magazine. Vayots Dzor received the “Best Foreign Food and Wine Destination” award from the Italian Association of Travel Journalists. Additionally, over 90 international journalists visited Armenia, resulting in more than 500 published articles in foreign media, significantly boosting Armenia’s visibility.

Notable developments in 2024 include the adoption of the “Law on Tourism,” which aims to regulate the sector more effectively, and the creation of a comprehensive tourism and investment guide. The event concluded with discussions on new opportunities for sustainable growth in Armenia’s tourism landscape, ensuring the country remains competitive and attractive to global travelers.
