Armenia’s Men’s Weightlifting Team Heads to World Championships with 10 Athletes

Armenia’s national men’s and women’s weightlifting teams are actively preparing for the World Weightlifting Championships, set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from December 6 to 15. The men’s team is training at the Olympic Training Complex in Yerevan, while the women’s team is holding their sessions in Gyumri.

The men’s team will send 10 athletes to represent Armenia at the championships, with the final roster confirmed. The team includes:

61 kg – Garnik Cholakyan
73 kg – Gor Sahakyan
89 kg – Andranik Karapetyan
96 kg – David Hovhannisyan and Hakob Mkrtchyan
102 kg – Ara Aghanyan
109 kg – Garik Karapetyan and Petros Petrosyan
+109 kg – Varazdat Lalayan and Simon Martirosyan

According to women’s team head coach Artashes Nersisyan, the only confirmed athlete so far is 55 kg lifter Aleksandra Grigoryan. The rest of the women’s roster will be determined next week based on the results of internal test lifts.

This championship is a key event for Armenia, offering opportunities to earn qualifying points for the upcoming Olympic Games while also showcasing the country’s strength on the international stage.
