Arsenal Bolster Youth Ranks

Arsenal have successfully secured the signature of 16-year-old goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney from Northern Irish club Larne. As reported by the Belfast Telegraph, the young prospect chose the north London club despite significant interest from Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

According to the player’s father, Alan Blayney, the deal is effectively finalized, with the youngster set to sign a professional contract upon turning 17 in November 2027. Blayney, who impressed Arsenal staff during a recent trial, will join the club’s Under-18 squad, currently managed by Adam Birchall.

Shifts in the South African League

Simultaneously, the goalkeeping landscape in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) has seen significant movement. Chippa United, looking to stabilize their defense after a difficult 2025-26 season, have signed Kenyan international Brian Bwire.

The move follows the departure of Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who left the club earlier this year under unclear circumstances. Chippa United, having conceded 44 goals last season, are aiming for a more defensive-minded approach. Bwire, who previously played for Polokwane City, joins the club with the expectation of filling the void left by Nwabali’s exit.
