Continued Destruction of Armenian Heritage in Artsakh
New reports highlight the ongoing destruction of Armenian cultural and historical monuments in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), raising concerns over heritage preservation under Azerbaijani control. According to information shared by Artsakh Monuments, several symbolic sites have recently been damaged or destroyed.
Key Memorial Sites Damaged in Vank Village
In the Martakert region’s Vank village, a memorial dedicated to the victims of the 1941–45 Great Patriotic War was demolished. Additionally, a khachkar (cross-stone) commemorating the fallen of the Artsakh Liberation War and a memorial wall featuring reliefs of fallen fighters were also destroyed.
Rising Concerns About Cultural Erasure
The reported destruction raises wider concerns over the protection of Armenian cultural landmarks in territories now under Azerbaijani administration. Advocacy groups and cultural preservation bodies continue to monitor these developments and call for international attention to safeguard this endangered heritage.
