The Tampa Bay Lightning, a three-time Stanley Cup champion team, has announced a transformative partnership with Benchmark International, a globally recognized mergers and acquisitions firm. As of August 13, 2025, the team’s home venue in downtown Tampa will officially be called Benchmark International Arena, marking the start of a new chapter for the iconic sports and entertainment hub.
A Bold Partnership That Reflects Shared Values
The multi-year naming rights agreement between Benchmark International and Vinik Sports Group (VSG), the entity managing the Tampa Bay Lightning, is more than just a branding deal. It reflects a shared commitment to excellence, community impact, and innovation. Steve Griggs, CEO of VSG, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Benchmark International is a well-respected brand with global reach and strong ties to the Tampa Bay community. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to excellence, service, and community impact.” The deal also includes extensive rebranding efforts, such as new interior and exterior signage, digital integrations, and the renaming of the arena’s premium club level to the Benchmark International Club Level.
Benchmark International, headquartered in Tampa with offices in 14 cities worldwide, has an impressive track record of completing over $12.5 billion in transaction value across multiple industries. The firm’s Chairman and Co-Founder, Steven Keane, emphasized the alignment of values between the two organizations, saying, “Benchmark International Arena will continue to be a destination where unforgettable moments and community connection come together under one roof.” The partnership also involves $3 million in nonprofit contributions, focused on health, education, and hunger initiatives in the Tampa Bay region.
Honoring the Past While Looking to the Future
The renaming of the arena comes as the previous naming rights agreement with AMALIE Motor Oil concluded. Since its opening in 1996, the arena has been a cornerstone of Tampa’s vibrant sports and entertainment scene, hosting millions of fans and marquee events. Over the years, the venue has undergone several name changes, from the Ice Palace to the St. Pete Times Forum, and most recently AMALIE Arena in 2014.
Doug Ostrover, co-CEO of Blue Owl Capital and a member of the Vinik Sports Group ownership team, highlighted the importance of the arena as a community hub. “Benchmark International is an organization that leads with purpose,” he said. “They’re global in their reach, ambitious with their thinking, and deeply committed to making a meaningful difference.” Ostrover also noted that the partnership aligns with the Lightning’s broader goals of operating with integrity and staying grounded in community values.
A Strategic Move Amid Economic Challenges
The timing of this partnership is particularly noteworthy, given the current economic climate. Griggs acknowledged the difficulty of securing such a deal, stating, “With where the economy is right now, it is difficult to find a company willing to sign a deal like this one. But if you find the right alignment with the right partners who have the same vision and values that we do, this becomes a great opportunity for them.” Benchmark International CEO Tyrus O’Neill echoed this sentiment, expressing confidence that the partnership will elevate the firm’s profile while contributing to the community.
In addition to the naming rights deal, Vinik Sports Group has been working on other initiatives to enhance the fan experience. This includes a new food and beverage partnership with Oak View Group and discussions with architectural firm Gensler and Hillsborough County about potential renovations to the 29-year-old arena.
Community Engagement and Future Plans
As part of the rebranding, VSG and Benchmark International plan to host a series of free community events in mid-October, celebrating the arena’s new identity. Details of these events will be announced in the coming weeks. The rebranding efforts, which will roll out in phases, aim to ensure that Benchmark International Arena remains a world-class venue for sports, entertainment, and community connection.
Looking ahead, the partnership sets the stage for continued investment in the arena and its surrounding district. “This arena belongs to everyone in Tampa Bay,” Griggs emphasized. “We’re excited to invite fans, families, and the entire community to be part of this historic new chapter.” Benchmark International’s involvement underscores its commitment to building lasting relationships and making a positive impact in the communities it serves.
With this landmark agreement, Benchmark International and Vinik Sports Group have not only solidified their partnership but also set a new standard for how corporate sponsorships can drive meaningful community engagement and innovation in the sports and entertainment industry.
