Bluesky, a social network gaining traction as users leave X, has confirmed that it has “no intention” of using user content to train generative AI tools. The announcement coincides with X’s new terms of service, allowing the platform to use public posts for AI training.
“A number of artists and creators have made their home on Bluesky, and we hear their concerns with other platforms training on their data,” Bluesky said in a post. “We do not use any of your content to train generative AI, and have no intention of doing so.”
The company clarified that while it uses AI for moderation and its “Discover” feed, these systems are not trained on user content. Meanwhile, X, under Elon Musk’s ownership, has stated that user posts grant the company the right to analyze and train AI models using their data.
Bluesky has seen a significant surge in users, with over 1 million new signups in the last 24 hours, totaling 17.14 million users. Despite this growth, Meta’s Threads remains X’s biggest competitor, boasting over 275 million active users.
