PEACHTREE CITY (Azat TV) – CertainTeed Roofing, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, has completed a significant $100 million expansion at its manufacturing plant in Peachtree City, Georgia, effectively doubling its production capacity for roofing shingles. This strategic investment, marked by a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony, is designed to address the rapidly escalating housing demand across the U.S. Southeast, underscoring Georgia’s robust business environment and its appeal to major manufacturers.
The expansion project, initially announced in 2022, represents a substantial boost to the region’s construction material supply chain. State and local officials confirmed that the project benefited from more than $5 million in tax incentives, disbursed over the next decade, highlighting collaborative efforts between the private sector and government to foster economic growth.
Meeting Southeast Housing Demand with CertainTeed Expansion
The primary driver behind CertainTeed’s substantial investment is the booming housing market in the U.S. Southeast. The region continues to experience rapid population growth, leading to a significant need for new homes. Company officials emphasized that the increased capacity from the Peachtree City plant will be crucial in meeting these projected demands. Industry estimates suggest the U.S. will require an additional 4 million homes by 2030, with Georgia alone needing over 365,000 new residences within that timeframe.
Mark Rayfield, president and CEO of Saint-Gobain North America, spoke at the ribbon-cutting event, noting the company’s deep commitment to the state. Since 2018, Saint-Gobain has invested more than $500 million in Georgia and currently employs over 600 people across its operations. This latest expansion further solidifies the company’s long-standing presence and growth trajectory in the state.
Georgia’s Business Climate Attracts Major Investment
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp attended the ceremony, praising the expansion as a testament to the state’s favorable business climate and strong partnerships with manufacturers. Governor Kemp stated that such investments are ‘further proof that our approach is delivering results for hardworking Georgians statewide,’ reinforcing the state’s strategy of attracting and retaining large-scale industrial operations.
The Peachtree City plant, which first opened its doors in 1976, is one of ten Saint-Gobain facilities located in Georgia. Beyond roofing shingles, the company manufactures a diverse range of building materials in the state, including siding, insulation, and other essential construction components. The expansion is part of Saint-Gobain’s broader investment strategy across North America, which includes recent upgrades at gypsum facilities in Florida and Quebec, alongside new roofing-related facilities under development in North Carolina and Texas.
The doubling of CertainTeed’s shingle production capacity in Georgia serves as a clear indicator of how manufacturing investment is directly responding to national housing shortages, simultaneously bolstering regional economies through job creation and infrastructure support.
