Argentine tennis player Francisco Cerundolo advanced to the semi-finals of the Queen’s Club Championships on Friday after a hard-fought victory over Great Britain’s Arthur Fery. Cerundolo won the match 7-6(1), 3-6, 6-4, but the contest was marked by a significant physical scare.
During a rally, Cerundolo was struck in the throat by a ball hit at point-blank range by Fery. The impact left the Argentine briefly incapacitated on the court, clutching his neck. Following a brief pause to ensure he was fit to continue, Cerundolo resumed play and ultimately secured the win, ending the wildcard entry’s tournament run.
Reflecting the high intensity of the match, the players later exchanged a lighthearted moment during a subsequent point when Fery ducked to avoid a potential return. Cerundolo is now set to face American Brandon Nakashima in the semi-finals, following Nakashima’s straight-sets victory over top seed Alex de Minaur.
