OpenAI has reported that ChatGPT and the Sora video generator are experiencing issues.
ChatGPT is currently unavailable for many users. Numerous reports on social media confirm that the chatbot loads but fails to respond to queries, while others are encountering an “internal server error” message.
The outage appears to have begun around 1:30 PM ET, as reports started to spike on Down Detector. At 2:00 PM ET, OpenAI posted an update to its status page, stating that ChatGPT, the API, and the Sora text-to-video generator are “currently experiencing high error rates.” A subsequent update at 2:18 PM ET attributed the issue to an “upstream provider” and indicated that OpenAI is actively monitoring the situation.
There is no estimated time for service restoration.
ChatGPT has experienced several outages in recent months. Shortly after OpenAI released Sora to ChatGPT subscribers earlier this month, the video generation tool and ChatGPT went down for several hours. Additionally, a widespread outage affecting AI tools in June also impacted ChatGPT.
