The empowerment of Armenia must become a supreme value, while the restoration of Armenian communities in Lebanon and Syria should be a pan-national priority. This was emphasized by Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia in his Christmas and Epiphany message.
In his address, the Catholicos remarked that the Armenian nation is living in “times filled with various crises.” He stated, “The consequences of political, economic, climatic, and other crises, as well as wars, have created an atmosphere of despair and uncertainty everywhere. The entire Armenian people are living under the same conditions.”
Aram I highlighted that the loss of Artsakh has deepened the atmosphere of uncertainty and hopelessness in Armenia regarding its future. He also drew attention to the challenges faced by Armenians in the Middle East, stressing that the Armenian communities in Syria and Lebanon continue to endure severe upheavals.
Referring to the message of Apostle Paul to the Romans—“Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope”—Aram I emphasized the necessity of uniting national efforts and avoiding emotional approaches. “It is imperative to consolidate national forces and fight with faith in the future and resolute determination against the dangers threatening our homeland and existence,” he declared.
The Catholicos further underlined that, alongside the strengthening of Armenia, the restoration of Armenian communities in Lebanon and Syria must be viewed as a national priority. “These communities have historically been vital centers of Armenian culture and identity; their recovery is crucial for the entire Armenian nation,” he noted.
Aram I concluded his message with a call for faith and hope, reminding the Armenian people of their resilience in overcoming the most challenging periods of history. He urged unity and steadfastness in facing current challenges, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding national security, identity, and the future.
