Armenia has entered a new phase in its visa liberalization dialogue with the European Union. As part of this process, the country has welcomed an EU expert mission to initiate the preparation of an action plan for the next steps in the visa liberalization process.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs‘ Migration and Citizenship Service reported that the visiting delegation includes representatives from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs, the Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, the European External Action Service (EEAS), and FRONTEX.
The mission’s primary objective is to assess Armenia’s readiness for visa liberalization by evaluating key aspects of migration management, border control, and document security. The delegation’s agenda focuses on presenting the functions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Migration and Citizenship Service.
During a meeting held at the Migration and Citizenship Service headquarters, the head of the service, Nelly Davtyan, introduced the delegation to the centralized printing processes used for issuing travel documents. The presentation emphasized the importance of advanced technology in ensuring document authenticity and security, aligning Armenia’s practices with EU standards.
The EU experts noted Armenia’s progress in the field of migration management. They highlighted the importance of efficient cooperation between the relevant institutions to ensure the successful continuation of the visa liberalization process.
The discussions also addressed the next steps, including further assessments of Armenia’s migration policies, technical upgrades in border management, and awareness-raising programs for citizens about the visa-free travel process.
The Armenia-EU visa liberalization dialogue is seen as a crucial step toward strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing people-to-people contacts, and facilitating more accessible travel opportunities for Armenian citizens to EU member states.
The expert mission’s visit marks the beginning of a technically intensive period during which both sides will work collaboratively to finalize the action plan and set the foundation for further steps toward a visa-free regime.
