Food Inflation Hits Low-Income Households Hardest
According to official data, food prices in Armenia saw significant growth in April 2025 compared to the same month last year. Vegetables increased by 17.9% and fruits by 7.9%. Prices also rose compared to March, indicating ongoing inflationary pressure in the food sector.
Potatoes and Cucumbers Lead the Price Surge
Locally produced staple goods were among those most affected. Potato prices jumped by 47%, cucumbers by 16.6%, apples by 16.4%, and strawberries by 23.7%. Ineffective agricultural policy requires urgent reform.
Armenia Tops Regional Fuel Price Rankings
KSA Expats reported that Armenia had the most expensive gasoline in the region as of April 2025, at $1.343 per liter. This placed Armenia 94th globally in fuel price rankings. By comparison, fuel prices were lower in neighboring countries: $1.117 in Georgia (57th), $1.173 in Turkey (67th), $0.647 in Azerbaijan (17th), and just $0.029 in Iran, the second cheapest globally.
