Earthquake in Georgia Felt Across Armenia’s Northern Provinces

A seismic event measuring 5-6 in intensity struck near Dmanisi, Georgia, on December 28 at 3:44 PM local time (11:44 AM GMT), as confirmed by Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs Seismic Protection Territorial Service. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.2 and originating at a depth of 10 kilometers, was recorded approximately 8 kilometers northwest of Dmanisi at coordinates 41.40° N latitude and 44.18° E longitude.

This earthquake’s impact extended beyond Georgia, with tremors distinctly felt in various parts of Armenia, particularly in the northern Shirak and Lori provinces. In Shirak, residents of Gyumri and nearby villages, including Bavra, Ghazanchi, Ashotsk, and Musayelyan, reported noticeable ground shaking, measured at 3-4 intensity levels. Similarly, in Lori, towns such as Tashir and Stepanavan, along with the villages of Metsavan, Sarchapet, and Mikhalovka, experienced similar seismic effects.
