Georgia’s Residents Traveled Most to Turkey and Armenia in Q1 2025

Foreign Travel from Georgia Sees a Slight Decline

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, 614,700 residents traveled abroad during the first quarter of 2025. This marks a 4.4% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. Tourist trips accounted for 323,100 of the total.

Turkey and Armenia Were the Most Visited Countries

Turkey topped the list with 185,000 visits, followed by Armenia with 70,000. Visiting friends and relatives was the leading purpose for travel, cited by 36.6% of travelers.

Spending Increased Despite Fewer Travelers

Despite fewer trips, Georgians spent more abroad — a total of $176 million, up 5.7% compared to 2024. The average cost per trip rose by 14.4% to $364, indicating higher per-capita travel expenditure.

Comparing Quality of Life in Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan

According to The Economist’s global index, Georgia ranks 57th in quality of life, ahead of Armenia (69th) and Azerbaijan (81st). Although Armenia has a higher life expectancy (75.7 years vs. Georgia’s 74.5), Georgia outperforms in education and gross national income per capita.
