Pep Guardiola candidly admitted that his Manchester City squad “could not cope” with Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance after surrendering a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 on Wednesday. The defeat at Parc des Princes has left City’s Champions League hopes in jeopardy, positioning them 25th out of 36 teams with just eight points from seven games.

City initially gained control in the second half with Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland scoring to give the visitors a two-goal advantage. However, PSG launched a fierce comeback, starting with Ousmane Dembele’s strike, followed by Bradley Barcola’s equalizer. Joao Neves’ header in the 78th minute and Goncalo Ramos’ stoppage-time goal sealed the French side’s win.

Guardiola said that PSG’s tactical superiority, particularly their control in midfield, played a decisive role. Reflecting on the match, he stated, “They were better. We have to accept it. It’s sport and it is like that.”

The defeat leaves City needing a win in their final group-stage game against Club Brugge next Wednesday to secure progression to the knockout stages. Guardiola remained optimistic, stating, “We will do everything there, and if we don’t, it is because we don’t deserve it.”

Before the crucial Champions League fixture, City faces another test against Chelsea in the Premier League. Guardiola emphasized the importance of moving forward, saying, “Now we have to prepare for a tough game against Chelsea and, of course, the final against Bruges.”

Adding to City’s challenges, defender Ruben Dias was substituted at halftime due to discomfort. Guardiola expressed uncertainty about Dias’ availability for the upcoming matches, noting that the player had recently returned from injury. Despite the setback, Guardiola commended his players’ effort and acknowledged PSG’s exceptional quality, reaffirming City’s determination to fight in the games ahead.
