Harutyun Merdinyan, a member of the Armenian national gymnastics team, European champion, and bronze medalist in the World Championships, has announced his retirement from professional sports. In an interview with Armenpress, Merdinyan confirmed his decision. Merdinyan is a two-time European champion in pommel horse (2016, 2022) and a three-time European bronze medalist, as well as a silver medalist. In 2015, he won his first World Championship bronze in Glasgow, Scotland, a feat he repeated in 2022 at the Liverpool World Championships.
Merdinyan’s decision is a significant loss for Armenian gymnastics, as his achievements and participation in international competitions have had a substantial impact on the sport. His victories have been a source of inspiration for young athletes, and Merdinyan will remain an important figure in Armenian sports history.
