The family of Dianne Drummond, a beloved grandmother from Stirling, Scotland, has honored her memory in a heartfelt and inspiring way. Dianne passed away in February 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her family recently participated in a 25-mile charity hike to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, successfully collecting over £3,000 in her name.

A Life of Love and Dedication

Dianne Drummond, originally from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, led a life filled with love and devotion. She met her husband, John, when they both joined the Army as teenagers—Dianne in the Women’s Royal Army Corps and John in the Royal Corps of Transport. Their journey together took them across continents, including several years in Germany, before they settled in Stirling in 1994 after John retired from the Army.

Known for her warmth and resilience, Dianne raised four children—Caroline, Andrew, Lynsey, and Vicky—while supporting John during his active-duty years. She was also a cherished grandmother to six grandchildren: Jolie, Phoebe, Owen, Emma, Amari, and Zoe. Her family described her as a beacon of strength and positivity, qualities that remained steadfast even in the face of her illness.

The Battle Against Cancer

Dianne’s health challenges began in the summer of 2024 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent her first round of chemotherapy in October of that year. However, complications arose when she developed sepsis, leading to an eight-day hospital stay. Subsequent tests revealed a more devastating diagnosis: stage 4 oesophageal cancer that had spread to her lungs.

Despite her determination, Dianne’s condition worsened, and by January 2025, doctors informed the family that little could be done. She was moved to palliative care and passed away peacefully on February 11, surrounded by her loved ones.

Honoring Her Memory

To celebrate Dianne’s life and legacy, her family participated in the Rob Roy Mighty Hike, a 25-mile trek through the scenic Trossachs. The decision to join the hike had been made before her passing, with Dianne expressing her wish to be there to cheer them on at the finish line. After her death, the family chose to carry on with the plan as a tribute to her indomitable spirit.

John, Dianne’s husband, along with their daughters Lynsey and Vicky, son-in-law Alan, and granddaughter Amari, took on the challenge. Reflecting on the experience, John shared, “Dianne was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. Although not with us in body, she is always with us in everything we do.”

The hike not only served as a way to remember Dianne but also to contribute to a cause she deeply cared about. John raised £2,095 through his fundraising efforts, while Lynsey and Vicky collected an additional £1,038. The family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they received from friends, neighbors, and the local community.

A Legacy of Love

Dianne’s daughter Lynsey spoke of her mother’s enduring influence, saying, “Mum was incredibly brave and positive throughout everything. She was surrounded by her loved ones when she took her final breath. We’re still healing as a family, but we find strength in remembering her love and resilience.”

For John, adjusting to life without Dianne has been a profound challenge. “It’s been harder losing the love of my life and living alone for the first time in nearly 50 years,” he said. Despite the pain, he and his family remain committed to keeping Dianne’s memory alive through acts of kindness and charity.
