Shah characterized the motion as an unfortunate development for parliamentary politics, noting that it had been four decades since such a measure was last attempted. He emphasized that the Speaker serves as a neutral custodian of the House and argued that questioning this role undermines the foundation of India’s democratic processes. In a veiled reference to opposition leadership, Shah suggested that the motion was a departure from established rules where proceedings are conducted on the basis of mutual trust.

Prior to the final vote, the proceedings were marked by intense debate regarding the authority of the presiding officer. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey both affirmed that, under existing rules, any member occupying the Chair possesses the full authority to conduct proceedings and exercise powers equivalent to those of the Speaker. Pal, during his time in the chair, highlighted the procedural transparency of the process, specifically noting that Speaker Birla had personally ensured that initial administrative errors in the notification of the motion were corrected before the debate commenced.
