LONDON (Azat TV) – King Charles III is facing intensified scrutiny as his reign navigates significant challenges, including renewed allegations surrounding his brother Prince Andrew’s purported involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and criticism over a new luxury wedding venture at a royal estate in Scotland. These developments place the monarch and the institution under considerable public and ethical pressure, prompting calls for greater transparency and accountability from the Royal Family.

King Charles Responds to Andrew Allegations Amid Mounting Pressure

The monarchy has been urged to be ‘open and honest’ regarding the allegations against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, often referred to as Prince Andrew, following the release of millions of documents from the Epstein files. These documents reportedly picture or mention the King’s brother hundreds of times, intensifying the long-standing scandal.

King Charles issued a statement on February 9, confirming that if Buckingham Palace is ‘approached by Thames Valley Police, we stand ready to support them as you would expect.’ The statement also conveyed the King’s ‘profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct.’

However, this response has been met with sharp criticism. Graham Smith, CEO of Republic, the UK’s largest anti-monarchy pressure group, dismissed the statement as the ‘bare minimum you would expect for anybody, let alone the head of state.’ Speaking to GB News, Smith highlighted that cooperation with police during an investigation is not optional. He called for the Royal Family to acknowledge the seriousness of the problems and ensure police can investigate freely, without concern for pressure or repercussions. Smith also demanded that the monarchy publicly share relevant documents, similar to the actions of US authorities, insisting on ‘no exemptions’ or ‘favourable treatment’ for any member of the Royal Family.

Further complicating matters, new allegations have surfaced, reportedly claiming that women were brought into Buckingham Palace under the codename ‘Mrs Windsor,’ with Prince Andrew allegedly instructing staff to grant them entry. This development, reported by Mario Nawfal, citing a close confidant and biographer of the King, has prompted former Prime Minister Gordon Brown to demand a criminal investigation by Scotland Yard.

Luxury Weddings at Dumfries House Spark Financial Scrutiny

Adding to the monarchy’s woes, King Charles is also facing accusations of ‘cashing in on royal prestige’ after unveiling plans to host luxury weddings at Dumfries House, one of his Scottish estates. The move, branded ‘tone-deaf’ by critics, comes amidst intense financial and ethical scrutiny of the Royal Family.

OK! magazine revealed that the 77-year-old King plans to open a purpose-built events venue, named The King’s Hall, at Dumfries House in Ayrshire from summer 2027. The venue will accommodate ceremonies and receptions for up to 200 guests, with hire fees starting from approximately $7,500 midweek and $11,500 on weekends. This development is part of an $8.9 million expansion project at the 18th-century estate, which King Charles, then Prince of Wales, rescued from sale in 2007. The King’s Foundation, an education charity he founded, oversees the project, claiming profits from the weddings will fund training and employment programs in rural Scotland.

Despite the foundation’s assertion that the aim is to make historic properties self-sustaining and create jobs, the announcement has triggered sharp reactions. Critics point to resurfaced controversies, such as the 2021 resignation of Michael Fawcett, Charles’s former valet and then chief executive of the charity, after allegations he offered to help a Saudi donor secure a knighthood and British citizenship in exchange for donations. Although no criminal action was taken and the money was returned, a Scottish charity regulator later identified ‘serious’ governance failures. A royal watcher noted that the timing of the announcement was awkward, stating, ‘This, as always with the royals, is all about optics.’

Public Reaction and Calls for Accountability

The dual controversies have fueled public discontent. Both King Charles and Queen Camilla have faced public heckling during recent outings. During one visit to Clitheroe, Lancashire, the King was heckled on two separate occasions, though crowds reportedly drowned out the hecklers with boos and calls to ‘shut up.’ Queen Camilla, meanwhile, avoided commenting on reporters’ questions about the Epstein investigation or messages for victims.

Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have also expressed their deep concern over the ‘continued revelations’ and stated their thoughts remain focused on the victims. Prince Edward was the first Royal Family member to speak out after the Epstein files’ release, emphasizing the importance of remembering the victims.

For Graham Smith of Republic, the current situation underscores a broader need for accountability from a monarchy he accuses of ‘always seeking to defend themselves.’ He argues that the Royal Family should proactively ensure they are subjected to the same laws and scrutiny as any other citizen.

These converging pressures on King Charles III and the Royal Family highlight a critical juncture for the monarchy, testing its ability to adapt to modern demands for transparency and accountability while managing the complex legacies of its members and institutions. The King’s responses and the outcomes of these investigations could significantly shape public perception and the future stability of the Crown.
