Liverpool’s highly anticipated Premier League clash against Manchester United will proceed as scheduled, despite the Met Office’s amber warning for snow and ice in the Liverpool and Manchester areas. The match, set to kick off at Anfield at 20:30 local time, has been confirmed after two safety meetings conducted earlier in the day deemed conditions safe for fans and players.

In a statement shared on social media, Liverpool FC reassured supporters: “Today’s fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned. Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions. We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today. If you’re travelling to Anfield, then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there.”

The amber alert issued by the Met Office is expected to remain in place until Sunday night, warning of potentially hazardous conditions caused by snow and ice. While the Liverpool-Manchester United fixture has been cleared to proceed, other sporting events across the UK have not been as fortunate. In League Two, matches between Chesterfield and Gillingham and Fleetwood and AFC Wimbledon were postponed due to adverse weather, along with the Women’s FA Cup tie between Nottingham Forest and Burnley.

Despite the disruptions, London has been far less affected, allowing Fulham’s Premier League match against Ipswich to proceed as scheduled. However, horse racing meetings at Plumpton and other venues were called off due to worsening conditions, further highlighting the challenges posed by the severe winter weather.

Liverpool heads into tonight’s match as favorites, with a win probability of 70%, compared to Manchester United’s 13%. Historical data also favors the home side, with Liverpool losing just one of their last 13 Premier League encounters against their bitter rivals. United, on the other hand, are grappling with a poor away record against Liverpool, having scored just one goal in their last eight visits to Anfield.

The Anfield faithful will be hoping their team capitalizes on United’s struggles and icy conditions to secure another memorable victory in one of English football’s most iconic rivalries.
