Brand New Mercedes G-Class EV Dumped After Just 1,200 Miles!

2025 Mercedes G-Class EV

This 2025 Mercedes G580 EQ Edition One model is powered by four electric motors, combining to produce 579 horsepower and 859 lb-ft of torque. Purchased new by its original owner, it just sold at auction for $165,000 with only 1,200 miles on the odometer. Its original MSRP? A hefty $187,400.

Losing $20,000 on a brand-new G-Wagen might raise some eyebrows. It usually depends on the specific configuration, model year, mileage, and other factors. However, this is a low-mileage, essentially brand-new G580 EQ with the desirable Edition One package. A Mercedes-AMG G63 wouldn’t depreciate this quickly.

So, what’s the reason? It’s likely due to the current used car market, which is impacting premium and luxury EVs significantly. Enthusiasm for these vehicles has waned somewhat, or at least not enough for buyers to consistently pay full MSRP again.

The G580 EQ is an interesting vehicle, and we’ll have a full review coming soon (in the next week or two) after our current test drive. One initial observation: the range seems a bit optimistic. The EPA rating is 239 miles (384 km) on a single charge, but real-world driving, especially in colder weather, likely falls short of that.

On the other hand, G-Wagen owners typically have comfortable homes with garages, where they can install a convenient wall charger. It’s important to remember that this vehicle is more of a fashion statement and status symbol than a dedicated off-roader.

This particular G580 EQ sports a Manufaktur Arabian Gray finish. It also boasts LED lights, a sunroof, power-folding mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, and the highly sought-after $18,250 Edition One package (which includes the AMG Line pack, AMG Night pack, Seat Comfort pack, blue exterior accents, blue calipers, a unique four-slat grille, puddle lights, silver running boards, leather upholstery with blue stitching, and blue carbon fiber interior trim).

Inside, you’ll find heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, and much more, including the G-ROAR sound experience (more on that in our upcoming review).

Performance comes from four electric motors (one per wheel) powered by a 116-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The combined output is 579 horsepower and 859 lb-ft of torque, making the G580 EQ surprisingly quick – almost as quick as the G63.

The reason for the seller’s quick turnaround (just over a year) is unclear. They made some comments in the auction listing, but didn’t explicitly state why they were selling. It’s not a great sign, especially as this kind of rapid resale is becoming more common with new EVs.
