Netflix Revamps User Interface with AI-Driven Features

According to Eunice Kim, Netflix’s Chief Product Officer, the goal was to create a more flexible and responsive interface. “We wanted to design an experience that caters to our diverse entertainment offerings while being intuitive and capable of showcasing the most exciting moments on Netflix,” Kim stated.

AI-Powered Search and Real-Time Recommendations

One of the most innovative features is the integration of generative artificial intelligence into Netflix’s search function. This tool allows users to type natural language queries, such as “I want something funny and upbeat,” to find tailored content recommendations. Currently in beta testing, this feature is available to iOS users who opt in.

Netflix is also enhancing its recommendation algorithms to provide real-time suggestions based on user behavior. Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s Chief Technology Officer, emphasized the role of AI in improving user experience. “Our recommendations are good, but we believe they can be even better. Mobile Experience Gets a Vertical Video Feed

In addition to the TV interface updates, Netflix is testing a vertical video feed for its mobile app. This feature, reminiscent of TikTok’s format, allows users to swipe through clips from shows and movies. Users can then tap to watch, add to their list, or share with friends. The vertical feed aims to make content discovery more engaging and shareable, particularly for younger audiences.
