NotebookLM has launched an exciting new feature, “Convert Notes to Source,” now available to all users. Though simple at first glance, this feature unlocks significant capabilities that enhance how you manage and utilize your notes.
NotebookLM is an innovative AI-powered research and note-taking tool designed to enhance productivity and streamline workflows for individuals and teams. Launched by Google Research in 2023, NotebookLM integrates advanced language models to assist with organizing, analyzing, and generating insights from your notes. The platform enables users to create, manage, and interact with notebooks while leveraging AI features like summaries, inline citations, and contextual exploration of ideas. NotebookLM is particularly tailored for students, researchers, and professionals seeking efficient solutions for managing large volumes of information.
This new tool can be found in an open notebook, right next to the “Add Note” button. It allows users to merge all their notes or select specific ones to form a unified source. The consolidated source separates each note with a divider and generates a unique name like “All notes 10/18/24” for easy identification.
The “Convert Notes to Source” feature provides users with several new benefits:

Currently, sources created using this feature do not auto-update when changes are made to the original notes. This functionality is expected to roll out in 2025. The previous method of selecting notes and directly working with AI remains available temporarily but will be phased out in the coming weeks. NotebookLM plans to introduce new user interface (UI) updates for an even smoother experience.
