Technician Sentenced for Theft

A 32-year-old technician, Chinnavan Tamilarasan, was sentenced to nine months in jail on June 16 following a series of thefts at SIA Engineering’s facility in Changi, Singapore. Court documents reveal that the defendant, an Indian national employed by a local engineering contractor, utilized his access to the server room—granted for air-conditioning maintenance—to steal high-value hardware.

The thefts occurred in January 2026. Tamilarasan initially stole two laptops valued at over US$2,699, hiding them in a false ceiling before later removing them from the premises. He subsequently attempted to steal 16 hard disk drives by tampering with a control box and bypassing security fencing. He was apprehended by security personnel on-site. All stolen items were eventually recovered.

Market Sentiment on ST Engineering

In broader corporate news, market analysts are examining whether ST Engineering—a separate entity—can challenge DBS Group as the dominant player on the Singapore Exchange. While DBS currently holds the title of Singapore’s largest group by market capitalization, supported by its relationship with Temasek, ST Engineering’s performance and strategic positioning continue to draw interest from institutional investors looking for growth in the local bourse.
