Earthquake North of Spitak: 2.1 Magnitude Tremor Recorded

On January 11, at 6:31 PM local time (2:31 PM GMT), Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs Seismic Protection Service registered a 2.1 magnitude earthquake 1 kilometer north of Spitak. The earthquake’s epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers, with geographic coordinates of 40.84°N latitude and 44.27°E longitude.

In the epicentral zone, the underground tremor’s intensity reached 2-3 points on the seismic intensity scale. The earthquake was felt in Spitak and the nearby village of Arevashogh in Lori Province, with a similar intensity of 2-3 points.

Although the tremor was relatively minor, it serves as a reminder of the region’s seismic activity. Spitak and its surrounding areas have historically been vulnerable to seismic events, emphasizing the need for vigilance and preparedness.
