LONDON (Azat TV) – Apple TV+ has officially confirmed the highly anticipated fourth season of its Emmy-winning comedy series, “Ted Lasso,” targeting a summer 2026 premiere. The announcement comes alongside the release of first-look photos, signaling a significant shift for Jason Sudeikis’s titular character, who will now be coaching a Division 2 women’s football team, marking a fresh chapter for the beloved series.

A New Pitch for Coach Lasso

The return of “Ted Lasso” has been a subject of intense speculation since its third season concluded. Now, with official confirmation from Apple TV+, fans can anticipate a summer debut. Production for the new season began in July 2025, initially in Kansas City, Sudeikis’s hometown, before moving to London where filming is currently underway, according to Deadline.

The central premise of Season 4 will see Ted Lasso, after returning to Kansas at the end of Season 3, heading back to the UK to take on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a women’s soccer team. Sudeikis himself confirmed this popular fan theory on the New Heights podcast, co-hosted by American football players Travis and Jason Kelce. He shared an intriguing hint about the season’s theme, stating, “As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap, in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

Returning Favorites and Fresh Faces

Several beloved cast members are set to reprise their roles for the fourth season. Hannah Waddingham will return as AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton, with Brett Goldstein back as the gruff assistant coach Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift as Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins. Juno Temple is also confirmed to return as Keeley Jones, while Brendan Hunt will be back as Coach Beard, actively contributing to the writers’ room alongside Sudeikis.

A notable change in the cast includes the recasting of Ted’s son, Henry. Grant Feely, known for his role as young Luke Skywalker in Disney+’s “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” will now portray a 12-year-old Henry, who has become a skilled soccer player himself. New series regulars joining the ensemble include Tanya Reynolds (“Sex Education”), who will play a new assistant coach, Jude Mack (“Back In Action”), Faye Marsay (“Adolescence”), Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey (“Jurassic World: Dominion”), and Abbie Hern (“My Lady Jane”).

However, some fan-favorite characters, such as Nick Mohammed’s Nate Shelley and Phil Dunster’s Jamie Tartt, were not named as regular returning characters for Season 4. Deadline previously reported that Dunster had a scheduling conflict with a new HBO comedy, “Rooster,” also from executive producer Bill Lawrence, which premiered in March.

Behind the Scenes: The Creative Team

The creative force behind “Ted Lasso” Season 4 sees Jason Sudeikis not only starring but also taking on writing and producing duties. He will serve as co-showrunner alongside Jack Burditt, a comedy veteran known for his work on “Modern Family” and “30 Rock,” who has signed an overall deal with Apple TV+. The writing team, largely composed of “Ted Lasso” alums, has been actively developing scripts for months.

Returning executive producers include Brendan Hunt, Brett Goldstein, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, and Leann Bowen. Phoebe Walsh and Sarah Walker are back as producers, with Sasha Garron as co-producer and Dylan Marron as story editor. Julia Lindon joins as a new staff writer. Bill Lawrence, who developed the series with Sudeikis, Kelly, and Hunt, remains a non-writing executive producer through his Doozer Productions, alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.

Emmy Legacy and Anticipation

“Ted Lasso” has garnered widespread critical acclaim and an impressive collection of awards, including 13 Emmy Awards and 61 Emmy nominations over its first three seasons. The series’ blend of humor, heart, and optimism has resonated deeply with audiences globally, making the announcement of a fourth season a major event for fans and the industry alike.

The shift to coaching a women’s football team and the potential for new narrative settings, including a brief stint in Kansas, represents a bold evolution for “Ted Lasso.” This strategic pivot allows the series to maintain its core themes of resilience and mentorship while exploring fresh dynamics and introducing new characters, ensuring the show’s continued relevance and engaging its audience with uncharted territory.
