RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Star The Vivienne

James Lee Williams, known worldwide as The Vivienne, a trailblazing drag queen and winner of the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, has tragically passed away at the age of 32. Simon Jones, the performer’s publicist, confirmed the devastating news, describing Williams as “an incredibly loved, warm-hearted, and amazing person.” While the cause of death has not been disclosed, the family has requested privacy during this difficult time.

Born in Wales, James Lee Williams adopted the drag persona The Vivienne, inspired by a love for Vivienne Westwood fashion. Rising to fame with an iconic performance on the inaugural season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, The Vivienne captivated audiences with charisma, talent, and comic genius, earning a devoted following.

The Vivienne’s career extended far beyond the Drag Race stage. In 2023, Williams showcased versatility by finishing third on Dancing On Ice, further cementing their status as a multi-talented performer. Their theatrical talents shone brightly in The Wizard of Oz musical tour, where they played the Wicked Witch of the West across the UK and Ireland, reprising the role last year at the West End’s Gillian Lynne Theatre.

Off the stage, The Vivienne’s sharp wit and charm made them a beloved figure within the drag community and beyond. Known for inspiring fans with a message of authenticity and self-expression, their influence stretched far beyond performance. In their final Instagram post on Boxing Day, The Vivienne optimistically reflected on 2024 and looked forward to 2025, writing, “Here’s to reaching new heights and achieving dreams.”

The loss of The Vivienne is a profound tragedy for the drag and entertainment communities.
