A Record-Breaking Performance
Toyota has claimed victory at the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a finish described as the narrowest in the event’s history. The winning car, number 7, driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries, began the race from 14th on the grid—the lowest starting position for any winner in the race’s history.
The Toyota team secured the win by a margin of just 10.9 seconds over the BMW team led by Robin Frijns, René Rast, and Sheldon van der Linde. The victory was defined by a bold early pit stop strategy that allowed the team to recover from their initial grid disadvantage.
New Entrants and Industry Trends
While Toyota dominated the podium, the event also served as a major stage for Genesis, which competed in the Hypercar category for the first time. The Korean luxury brand, part of the Hyundai Group, finished 13th with its GMR-001 vehicle. Peter Kronschnabl, President of Genesis Europe, noted that the goal was to learn and gather data for future performance iterations, signaling the brand’s intent to compete at the highest levels of endurance racing.
The race saw high attendance and significant corporate investment, with major brands like Rolex continuing their long-standing partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest. The event remains a critical venue for manufacturers to demonstrate automotive durability and technological advancement.
