Who Will Benefit from Public Transport Fare Discounts Under the New Proposal?

Yerevan’s Deputy Mayor has presented a proposal outlining fare discounts for various social groups as part of the upcoming changes in public transport pricing. The initiative aims to provide reduced or free access to public transport services for vulnerable segments of the population. The benefits are outlined as follows:

-Children under 7 years old – free of charge.
-Schoolchildren (ages 8-17) – 20% discount.
-Orphaned schoolchildren – free of charge.
-Pensioners (aged 63 and above) – 30% discount.
-University students (studying in Yerevan, regardless of registration) – 15% discount.
-Orphaned university students – free of charge.
-Persons with disabilities (1st and 2nd groups or classified as severely disabled) – free of charge.
-Individuals under state care (in orphanages or elderly homes) – free of charge.
-Low-income families receiving state assistance – 20% discount.
-Recipients of honorary awards (former USSR heroes, Heroes of Armenia, recipients of the First and Second Degrees of the Battle Cross, Glory Medals) – free of charge.
-Parents from large families – free of charge.

Deputy Mayor emphasized that the proposal is designed to support those who genuinely need it in light of the changes in fare rates. This initiative is aimed at ensuring social fairness and protecting the city’s most vulnerable groups.

The proposal has been submitted for review and approval, and if implemented, it will serve as a significant step toward making public transport more accessible and equitable in Yerevan.
