First Round of Indirect Nuclear Talks Concludes in Oman

The first stage of indirect talks between Iran and the United States concluded in Muscat on April 12, 2025. According to Iranian media, the atmosphere during the negotiations was described as “positive.” These discussions, which exclusively focused on Iran’s nuclear program, were facilitated by Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi.

Tehran Emphasizes Sanction Relief in Exchange for Trust

The Iranian delegation reiterated that the scope of the discussions would remain limited to nuclear issues. Tehran maintained that it would not accept threats during these talks and emphasized that its approach is rooted in mutual benefit. Iran’s official position centers on securing the lifting of sanctions in return for confidence-building measures.

Short In-Person Exchange Following Indirect Talks

Though the meetings were officially conducted indirectly, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed that the heads of the delegations held a brief face-to-face exchange in the presence of the Omani foreign minister following the session, which lasted over two and a half hours.

Negotiations to Continue Next Week

Both Washington and Tehran have agreed to proceed with further discussions next week. While specific outcomes have not been disclosed, diplomatic sources describe this phase as a potential step toward reestablishing a dialogue framework on the nuclear issue.
