MISSOULA, MONTANA (Azat TV) – Yellowstone Bourbon has announced a significant new partnership with The Vital Ground Foundation, committing to protect crucial grizzly bear habitat across the Northern Rockies. The collaboration, revealed on January 30, 2026, extends the bourbon brand’s long-standing dedication to conservation beyond the confines of Yellowstone National Park, addressing the critical need for interconnected landscapes for grizzly populations and other wide-ranging wildlife.

The initiative aims to permanently protect over 7,500 acres of vital grizzly habitat, focusing on areas that connect fragmented sub-populations. This move is particularly timely as development pressures continue to impact rural areas of the American West, making habitat linkage areas increasingly important for species like the grizzly bear.

Yellowstone Bourbon’s Expanded Conservation Commitment

The partnership between Yellowstone Bourbon, established in 1872, and The Vital Ground Foundation is built on a shared commitment to environmental stewardship. Yellowstone Bourbon, known for its deep ties to America’s first national park, has previously supported the National Parks Conservation Association. Now, it is expanding its reach to directly impact habitat protection and conflict prevention in the broader Northern Rockies region.

Shanae Randolph, Marketing Director of Yellowstone Bourbon, affirmed the company’s pride in supporting Vital Ground’s One Landscape Initiative. This program strategically acquires conservation easements and purchases private land to safeguard key corridors that link wild strongholds. Randolph highlighted the goal to secure more than 7,500 acres of habitat, ensuring grizzly bears have the connected landscape necessary for their survival and thriving.

Stephen Beam, Founder and Master Distiller of Limestone Branch Distillery, which produces Yellowstone Bourbon, underscored the brand’s historical connection to bears. Since its first major advertising campaign featuring Yellowstone National Park bears in 1948, bears have been a symbolic element of the brand. Beam expressed enthusiasm for supporting Vital Ground’s mission, calling it an honor to continue their commitment to protecting wildlife and the outdoors.

Protecting the Northern Rockies’ Iconic Grizzlies

Grizzly bears are a species characterized by large home ranges and slow reproductive rates, making habitat connectivity essential for their long-term survival. Isolated populations face risks of genetic isolation and reduced resilience. While the grizzly population in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem has rebounded from approximately 200 in the 1970s to around 1,000 today, it remains geographically isolated from other bear populations, such as those near Glacier National Park and in parts of northwestern Montana, northern Idaho, and northeastern Washington.
