In 2024, Yerevan solidified its position as a major hub for international sports by hosting 15 prestigious tournaments across 13 disciplines, bringing over 6,500 athletes from 16 countries to Armenia. These events significantly boosted the city’s sports culture and strengthened its reputation as an international sports center.
On April 21, the Dinamo Sports Hall hosted the Kyokushin Karate Grand Prix 2024, welcoming 350 athletes from 16 countries. This event underscored the importance of martial arts development in Armenia and highlighted the international appeal of Yerevan as a sports destination.
In May, Yerevan organized the inaugural “Mayor’s Cup,” an international multi-sport tournament featuring basketball, volleyball, table tennis, and badminton. Athletes from various countries contributed to the tournament’s competitive spirit and elevated its status to international standards.
From December 5-11, the 6th “Yerevan Open” international chess tournament took place at the Tigran Petrosian Chess House. With 12 grandmasters and 5 international masters among the participants, the event boasted a prize fund of 12 million AMD, attracting top players from Armenia, Iran, Russia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, and Sweden.
Yerevan also hosted several Euro 2024 qualifying matches, during which Armenia’s national football team competed against teams from various countries, further enhancing the city’s role as a key venue for high-profile sports events.
