Rodri Hernandez, the Ballon d’Or winner and Manchester City star, spoke candidly to ‘El Larguero’ about his landmark achievement, his potential return to the pitch, and a hypothetical call from Real Madrid.

Just weeks ago, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris witnessed Rodri being crowned the best player in the world, surpassing favorites like Vinicius and Jude Bellingham. Reflecting on his win, Rodri said, “I was surprised by the certainty in Spain that I wouldn’t win. In Spain, we focus more on clubs than the national team, which doesn’t happen in England or Brazil. There are 100 countries voting, and I felt like the favorite outside Spain.”

Rodri also addressed the absence of the Spanish national team at the Ballon d’Or gala, adding, “They didn’t call me to congratulate me. It’s their choice, and there’s no need to overthink it.”

When asked about a possible approach from Real Madrid, Rodri didn’t shy away. “If Real Madrid calls me? Obviously, it’s an honor. Real Madrid is the best club in history, and you always have to pay attention,” he said, fueling speculation about a potential move to the Spanish giants.

Rodri expressed joy over Pep Guardiola’s contract extension with Manchester City until 2027. “It’s a joy that he decided to continue. He has been the most influential coach of my career. When I signed with City, I was told he’d only stay for one or two years, but it’s incredible that he’s still here,” the midfielder noted.

Currently recovering from surgery, Rodri is determined to return before the season ends. “The surgeon says recovery could take up to 10 months, but I want to finish this season. With the Nations League and Club World Cup in June-July, I think I’ll make it,” he shared.

Ahead of Manchester City’s match against Tottenham, Rodri will be honored by his club for his achievements. As he navigates recovery, his focus remains on contributing to City’s success while leaving the door open for potential future opportunities, including a call from Real Madrid.
