On December 20, 2024, Armenia’s Ambassador to Greece, Tigran Mkrtchyan, attended the swearing-in ceremony for first-year cadets of the “Lord Byron” class at Greece’s Military Academy (Στρατιωτική Σχολή Ευελπίδων, ΣΣΕ) in the Vari region of Attica.
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from the Greek and Cypriot armed forces, including General Dimitrios Choupis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, and Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas, Chief of the Cyprus National Guard General Staff.
The event brought together representatives of diplomatic and local government circles, academic institutions, and the families of the 130 newly sworn cadets. The cadets hailed from eight countries: Greece (93), Cyprus (24), Armenia (4), Albania (1), Jordan (3), Moldova (1), Senegal (2), and Tunisia (2).
In his order of the day, Battalion Commander Major General Anastasios Polychronos emphasized that the oath marked the beginning of a new journey, symbolizing the cadets’ dedication to their homeland and the historical significance of the Military Academy.
The participation of Armenian cadets and the Armenian ambassador highlights the ongoing strengthening of Armenian-Greek cooperation and the importance of fostering ties in the fields of defense and diplomacy.
