Armenia’s EU Membership Draft to Be Discussed in Parliamentary Committee on 24 January

This Friday, January 24, the Armenian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration will review the draft law titled “On Launching the Process of Armenia’s Accession to the European Union.” The discussion is officially included in the committee’s agenda.

According to the justification provided in the draft, the law aims to affirm the will and determination of the Armenian people and their current government to join the family of progressive, civilized, and developed nations. The draft law declares Armenia’s intention to initiate the process of EU membership, which will guide the government’s decisions and actions on this path.

The justification further emphasizes that the adoption of this law, given the current geopolitical context, will strengthen Armenia’s sovereignty and resilience. It aims to solidify democracy, ensure citizen participation in governance, and make the rule of law irreversible. Additionally, the law seeks to restore faith and trust in the predictability of the state’s policies.

Artak Zeynalyan, the official representative of the initiating group in Parliament, will present the draft, with Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan serving as a co-reporter.
