Armenian Gull: The Symbolic Bird of 2025

The Armenian Gull (Larus armenicus) has been elected as the symbolic bird of 2025 through the “Bird of the Year 2025” eco-educational campaign, garnering 25.3% of the votes. This initiative represents a significant effort to raise awareness about bird species and conservation in Armenia. The Armenian Gull, often mistaken for other species, now serves as a key emblem of nature and biodiversity in the country.

The runner-up, the Rock Dove (Columba livia), received 23.2% of the votes and remains a favorite among bird enthusiasts. The Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), one of the fastest birds globally, secured third place with 20.8%. Additionally, the Green Bee-eater (Merops persicus) and Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus) completed the top five, showcasing the diversity of avian life celebrated by voters.

This campaign not only promotes ecological education but also highlights the critical role birds play in Armenia’s natural ecosystem. Such initiatives are pivotal in fostering public engagement with environmental conservation and protecting the habitats of these magnificent species.
