Marvel Unveils Cast for Avengers: Doomsday
Six years after Avengers: Endgame became one of the highest-grossing films of all time, Marvel Studios has officially announced the cast for its next epic, Avengers: Doomsday. The reveal came during a nearly five-and-a-half-hour livestream event that showcased a mix of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) veterans, actors from 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe, and stars from the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Star-Studded Cast
The cast includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Danny Ramirez (The Falcon), and Winston Duke (M’Baku). Additionally, the cast of Marvel’s anti-hero team movie Thunderbolts* was represented, with Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Lewis Pullman (a character known as Bob) also confirmed.
X-Men and Fantastic Four Integration
Marvel also brought in X-Men actors Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast). Channing Tatum, who will debut as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, is also part of the cast. The Fantastic Four is represented by Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (The Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), and Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch).
Robert Downey Jr.’s Return
The livestream concluded with a surprise appearance by Robert Downey Jr., who will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. Downey, who retired as Iron Man in Endgame, reunites with directors the Russo Brothers for this two-part finale to the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. The event also hinted that more cast members will be revealed in the future.
Notable Absences
While the cast is extensive, notable absences include Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America), though Evans is expected to appear in at least one of the two films. Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who faced controversy in 2023, was also confirmed to return as Namor, signaling Marvel’s continued collaboration with the actor.
What’s Next?
Avengers: Doomsday is set to release in 2026 as part of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. With a blend of legacy characters and new faces, the film aims to build on the success of Endgame while introducing fresh dynamics to the superhero universe.
