Armenia Launches ‘Cinema School Without Borders’ for Aspiring Filmmakers

A Government-Supported Initiative to Foster the Next Generation of Filmmakers

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia has officially launched the “Cinema School Without Borders” program at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography (YSITC). This innovative educational initiative aims to equip young filmmakers with practical skills in film production, editing, scriptwriting, and directing, integrating traditional filmmaking techniques with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The program is organized by the Armenian Film Industry Development Cultural Foundation in partnership with YSITC. The launch event featured opening remarks from Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Daniel Danielyan, YSITC Rector Sara Nalbandyan, and program director Guzh Tadevosyan.

Deputy Minister Danielyan emphasized the ministry’s commitment to supporting young creatives through educational programs that enhance professional skills and career opportunities in filmmaking, music, and theater. He noted that such initiatives are essential for bridging education with industry demands and ensuring a sustainable future for Armenia’s creative sector.

Cinema Education Meets AI: How the Program Stands Out

Empowering Filmmakers with Modern Tools and Techniques

A total of 130 applications were submitted for the program, with 52 participants selected through a rigorous interview process conducted by leading professionals in the Armenian film industry.

Unlike conventional film education programs, Cinema School Without Borders integrates AI-driven tools such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Runway, enabling students to explore the role of artificial intelligence in modern cinema. Participants will learn how to use AI in scriptwriting, directing, and even film production, a groundbreaking approach that aligns with global trends in digital filmmaking.

The curriculum includes intensive workshops and hands-on training in:

  • Screenwriting and storytelling techniques
  • Directing and visual storytelling
  • Editing and post-production methods
  • AI-powered filmmaking and digital content creation

Serge Avédikian to Lead Masterclasses for Participants

A Unique Learning Opportunity from an Acclaimed French-Armenian Filmmaker

One of the program’s most anticipated highlights is the masterclass series led by renowned French-Armenian filmmaker Serge Avédikian. A celebrated director, actor, screenwriter, and producer, Avédikian will share his expertise in storytelling, independent filmmaking, and navigating the international film industry.

The program will also feature film screenings, discussions with creative teams, and collaborative projects where participants will produce short films as part of their final coursework.

Armenia’s film industry has seen a resurgence in international recognition, with a growing demand for educational initiatives that prepare young professionals for the global stage. At the conclusion of the program, all participants will receive an official certificate of completion, recognizing their expertise in modern filmmaking techniques.
