Former Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Hayk Demoyan, has reported that a 300,000-year-old natural monument in the Hrazdan Gorge was destroyed by excavator work. This area, with archaeological layers from the Stone Age to the Late Middle Ages, held significant historical artifacts.
Demoyan emphasized that the destruction of such a monument endangers Yerevan’s valuable heritage. The area is frequently visited by both tourists and locals due to its historical and cultural significance.
He added that the current construction aims to erect a new building, disregarding the importance of the heritage site. Demoyan urged the public and responsible authorities to support the preservation of heritage sites.
In his statement, Demoyan highlighted that city authorities must establish stricter controls to prevent similar cases and protect cultural and historical locations.
