Armenia Has 5 Representatives in FIDE’s December Rankings

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has released its December rankings, with Armenia represented by five chess players in the global lists.

In the men’s rankings, Armenia has two representatives:

  • Hayk Martirosyan, ranked 70th,
  • Shant Sargsyan, ranked 85th.

Former Armenian team leader Levon Aronian, who now competes under the U.S. flag, remains one of the world’s top chess players, holding the 11th position.

In the women’s rankings, Armenia has three representatives:

  • Elina Danielian, ranked 48th,
  • Lilit Mkrtchian, ranked 58th,
  • Anna Sargsyan, ranked 84th.

The Legacy of Armenian Chess
Armenian chess players have consistently maintained their position among the world’s best. While Levon Aronian now represents the United States, he continues to be a symbol of Armenian chess excellence. Hayk Martirosyan and Shant Sargsyan, representing the younger generation, are establishing themselves in high-level tournaments, demonstrating the strength of Armenia’s chess tradition.

The presence of three Armenian women in the FIDE rankings highlights the inclusive growth of chess in Armenia. With the experience of Elina Danielian and Lilit Mkrtchian, combined with the rising potential of Anna Sargsyan, the future of Armenian chess looks bright.
