December 1 marks World AIDS Day, observed this year under the theme “Putting Rights First: My Health, My Right.” This global event unites people worldwide to support those living with HIV/AIDS and honor the memory of those who have lost their lives to the disease.

From 1988 to October 31, 2024, Armenia recorded 6,076 cases of HIV, with 70% among men and 30% among women. AIDS cases stand at 2,779, while the total number of deaths has reached 1,276. Among children aged 0-14, 87 cases of HIV, 47 cases of AIDS, and 12 deaths have been reported.

As of the latest data, 4,800 people are living with HIV in Armenia (the estimated figure is 6,300). Of these, 3,777 individuals are receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART), which is provided free of charge.

Armenia continues to prioritize HIV prevention and early diagnosis through public health campaigns. Mobile diagnostic clinics offer free and anonymous testing, helping to reduce stigma and ensure accessibility. On December 1, a mobile clinic from the Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Center will operate from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Aznavour Square in Yerevan, providing on-the-spot testing services.

World AIDS Day highlights that HIV/AIDS is not just a medical issue but a significant social challenge. Raising awareness, fostering solidarity, and promoting prevention and treatment are essential to ensuring that the rights and health of every individual are protected. Armenia’s accessible and free healthcare services demonstrate that, with collective effort, it is possible to provide a high quality of life for those living with HIV.
