Goy Theatre has announced the conclusion of its month-long sit-in and the start of a new phase in its campaign. The announcement was made on the theatre’s Facebook page during the celebration of its 36th anniversary on December 8.
“For a month, we demonstrated our steadfastness through our sit-in. However, every struggle requires change and growth. We are now entering a new phase, focusing on more effective and strategic actions. We thank everyone who supported us during this time,” the statement read.
The theatre has been protesting a government decision to merge Goy Theatre with the Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre. Goy Theatre’s artistic and acting staff oppose this merger, insisting on maintaining their status as an independent theatre with the right to create in their current space.
The decision has been challenged in court by Goy Theatre representatives, who argue that their goal is to continue functioning as a separate creative entity with full autonomy.
