Traffic on Gudauri-Kobi and Stepantsminda-Lars Sections to Be Conducted in Non-Stop Mode

Road Artsakh

According to information received from the Roads Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, traffic on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the international Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars (M-3) highway, which connects to the Russian Federation border, is currently subject to restrictions due to snow and black ice. This update was shared by the Embassy of Armenia in Georgia.

The movement of vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers is temporarily prohibited on this section. However, all other types of vehicles are permitted to travel freely. The National Environmental Agency of Georgia has indicated that traffic on the Gudauri (Post)-Kobi and Stepantsminda-Lars segments will be conducted in a non-stop mode.

On the Gudauri-Kobi section, movement is allowed exclusively through tunnels 2, 3, 4, and 5 that are equipped with avalanche protection. Traffic via bypass roads for these tunnels is prohibited, except for the bypass road of the first tunnel, which is permitted under specific regulations.

All vehicle movements in this area are being closely monitored and coordinated by the Georgian Patrol Police to ensure traffic safety.

These restrictions and specific travel modes aim to minimize risks associated with road accidents under severe winter conditions, including snow and ice. Drivers traveling from Armenia to Russia are advised to follow the instructions of the patrol police and stay updated on the latest road information to ensure a safe and uninterrupted journey.
