Armenia is reportedly negotiating with India to purchase an additional 78 units of ATAGS (Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System) artillery systems, according to Indian Defence Research Wing (IDRW). This follows the successful deployment of the initial batch of ATAGS systems in Armenia.
The first batch of six howitzers underwent extensive testing in Armenia, including trials in high-altitude regions and flat terrains. These tests demonstrated exceptional accuracy over long distances and high reliability, leading Armenian authorities to consider scaling up procurement.
Armenia’s Ministry of Defense aims to incorporate feedback from its armed forces to further refine the ATAGS systems. Notably, the systems include an Armenian-language interface, simplifying operation and integration within the army.
The potential deal for an additional 78 artillery units signifies deepening defense cooperation between Armenia and India. Previously, Armenia acquired Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers and other defense systems from India.
The Armenian Armed Forces are expected to continue making minor updates to tailor the artillery systems to their specific operational needs, ensuring optimized performance in diverse terrains.
