According to Azat.TV Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan visited South Korea in September and negotiated South Korean arms supplies, showing particular interest in the K2 tank. The information comes from the “Army Recognition” defense news platform.

It’s noted that the RA Defense Minister participated in a high-level meeting on artificial intelligence organized by South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 9-10. Before him, on September 6, RA Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan also visited South Korea to conduct several meetings dedicated to arms procurement issues.

K2 “Black Panther” battle tanks are manufactured by Hyundai Rotem company. It’s considered one of the world’s most expensive tanks, costing about $8.5 million. The K2 battle tank used by the South Korean army is equipped with advanced technology that is particularly effective and well-suited for mountainous conditions. K2 has also been acquired by Poland and Turkey.

“The K2 main battle tank, currently used by the South Korean army, is equipped with advanced technology that is particularly suitable for mountainous terrain,” the publication states.

The media outlet also writes that in Armenia, where nearly 86% of the territory is mountainous, the acquisition of these tanks could provide significant strategic advantage on the battlefield by increasing the movement and precision of armed forces operations.
