Nissan has officially unveiled the third-generation Juke, confirming that the cult-favorite compact crossover will pivot to a battery-electric-only powertrain for the European market. Debuted at the company’s recent Vision event in Japan, the vehicle marks a bold shift in identity for one of the brand’s most recognizable models, trading its traditional combustion roots for a design that draws heavy inspiration from the 2023 Hyper Punk Concept.
A Radical Departure in Design
The new Juke is defined by its sharp, angular aesthetic, a stark contrast to the softer, bulbous shapes currently dominating the subcompact crossover segment. The exterior features aggressive, geometric surfacing and unique pixelated wheel designs that lean into a retro-futuristic digital look. Nissan has retained the signature “hidden” rear door handles, maintaining the illusion of a two-door coupe despite the vehicle’s four-door functionality.
Platform and Performance Expectations
Underneath the radical exterior, the third-generation Juke utilizes the CMF-EV platform, the same architecture underpinning the Nissan Ariya and Leaf. While technical specifications remain unconfirmed, industry analysts suggest the model will likely mirror the performance profiles of the existing Leaf, which offers battery packs of 52 kWh and 75 kWh in European markets. This configuration could provide a WLTP-rated range of up to 375 miles, positioning the Juke to compete directly in the rapidly expanding compact electric crossover segment.
Manufacturing and Strategic Rollout
Production of the new Juke is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 at Nissan’s Sunderland facility in the United Kingdom. Nissan has confirmed the vehicle will go on sale in Europe by the spring of 2027. Notably, the automaker plans to sell the new electric model alongside an updated version of the current hybrid Juke, ensuring a transition period for customers not yet ready to commit to a full-electric setup. While the model is currently confirmed for Europe, its availability in the North American market remains unverified as Nissan continues to prioritize the more practical Kicks crossover in that region.
The aggressive, concept-like design language of the new Juke indicates that Nissan is intentionally moving away from mainstream styling to secure a distinct market niche, banking on the model’s historical cult status to attract buyers who prioritize visual differentiation in an increasingly homogenized EV landscape.
